Ezee Fiber Overview
SHHA hosted an information session with guests from Ezee Fiber on Thursday, March 13th.
Ezee Fiber representatives provided an update on their expansion efforts in New Mexico. Speakers included Carlos Rosas (Local VP), Bill J (Construction), John Muldrow (Special Pricing), and Alex Rodriguez (Associate Director, Community & Government Relations, attending virtually from Houston). The company is investing $250 million in the state, with 62 employees already in Albuquerque and plans to hire over 300 people.
Service Information
Fiber internet uses optical fiber cables to transmit data as light signals, differing from traditional coaxial cables that rely on electrical signals. This technology allows for higher bandwidth capacity, enabling more connected devices to operate simultaneously. Unlike coaxial internet, fiber provides symmetrical upload and download speeds, meaning data can be sent and received at the same rate. It also has lower latency, reducing delays in real-time applications such as video calls and online gaming. Additionally, fiber infrastructure supports newer Wi-Fi technology, which can improve wireless performance within homes and businesses.
Project Status
- Fiber service is currently available in parts of Northeast Heights, specifically east of I-25 and north of I-40.
- As of March 10, Ezee Fiber anticipates receiving installation permits for Sandia Heights from Bernalillo County within approximately two weeks.
Construction & Installation
- Advance notifications: Ezee Fiber states that mailers will be sent 60, 45, and 35 days before construction starts, followed by door hangers a few days before construction is set to begin at an address.
- An underground boring machine is used to drill through rocky terrain. Drilling will happen in property easements.
- For subscribers, fiber lines run from the main line to a home require a small trench.
- Property concerns: Ezee Fiber’s construction resolution team claims to resolve issues within seven days. Residents can call 505-539-4848 for assistance.
