This issue is focused on the annual reports of the officers of the board and the standing committee. The officer reports included those of the president, Jim Stewart, vice-president, Eric Faulring; treasurer, Charles Ewing; and secretary, Martin Kirk. The standing committee reports included Architectural Control, chair, Phil Krehbiel; Covenant Support, chair, Stan Davis; Communication and Publications, chair, Claudia Mitchell; Community Support and Membership, chair, Elizabeth Edgren; Environmental and Safety, chair, Kathleen McCaughey; Information Technology, chair, Heidi Komkov; and Bylaws Revision Special Committee, chair, Elizabeth Edgren.
Additional articles: “City Of Albuquerque Decision on PNM Electrical Upgrades for Elena Gallegos” by Kathleen McCaughey, which noted: no increase in amount of power to be installed; no new pull boxes to be installed; all work will be underground & not on private property; all disturbance of land will be on USFS and City of Albuquerque Open Space land and will be reclaimed. “ Sandia Peak Utility Commitment to Fire Protection and Emergency Preparedness” from the Sandia Peak Utility Company, which noted that improvements include: increased storage capacity from an additional one-million-gallon storage tank added in 1994; a third deep well was added in 2012 in addition to the existing two as a redundancy measure; a new service yard complex constructed in 2017 to improve readiness; ongoing replacement of aging pipes and fire hydrants; improved security and 24-hour monitoring of all sensitive infrastructures; installation of new water meters decreasing water leakage loss. Ongoing preparedness and planning includes: emergency response plan; reduction of combustible materials around water system facilities; back-up power plan; maintenance of pressure reducing valves to ensure adequate pressure; communication systems improvement; testing of infrastructure capacity; community outreach and education. Residents encouraged to clear property of combustible material near home; stay informed by signing up for emergency alerts; create emergency kit and family plan. “New! Art Exhibit in SHHA Office” announcing a new rotating art exhibit in the SHHA office sponsored by the Sandia Heights Artists. The exhibit includes art by Sandia Heights Artists members, Lynda Burch, Collin Delker, Charlotte Driver, Judy Zabel, and Laura McIndoo.
